the other通常表示兩者之中的“一個……另一個……”。例如：1)I have a book in one hand and a pencil in the other (hand)。我一手拿著書本，一手握著鉛筆。2)I have two sisters。One is a teacher,the other is a doctor。我有兩個姐姐，一個是教師，另一個是醫生。（一個……另一個……）the other后面還可以接名詞復數，表示一定范圍內除去一部分以外后其余的全部。例如：1)Tom is taller than the other boys in his class。湯姆比他班上其他所有的男孩都高。（……其余的……）2)These two apples are rotten,but the other ones are all good。這兩個蘋果爛了，可是其它的都是好的。（一些……其余的……）而another是指三者或三者以上的“另一個”，也表示除去一部分以后的另一部分但不是余下的全部。例如：1)Here are three pens。One is red,another is blue,the third is green。這里有三支鋼筆，一支是紅色的，另一支是藍色的，還有一支是綠色的。（一個……另一個……第三個……）2)I don't like this coat。Would you please show me another one?我不喜歡這件衣服，請再拿一件給我看看好嗎？（一個……再一個……）3)There is room for another few people in the back of the bus．公共汽車后面還能坐下幾個人。（……另一些……）。

another 一般指三者以及三者以上的數量中“另一……”the other 一般指兩者之中的“另一……”例如：1.----What can I do for you? ----I want to buy a T-shirt. ----How about this one? ----I don't like it. Please show me another one. ----OK.……How about this one?2..I have two computers. One is at home. The other is in my office.
