other,不單獨使用，常與復數名詞連用，意思是其他的（人或物）。Ask some other people。問其他人吧。泛指別的人或物時，用others，也在一定的范圍內，但不是全部。Some are in the classroom, others are on the playground。一些學生在教室里，另一些在操場上。一定范圍內兩個人物，一個用one,另一個用the other。He has two brothers。One is a doctor。The other is a writer。他有兩個兄弟。一個是醫生。另一個是作家。一定范圍內，除去一部分人或物，剩余的全部用the others。Some magazines on the shelf are in Chinese,the others in English。書架上的一些雜志是中文的，另一些是英文的。。
