deliberately應該一是指 故意地 二是 慎重地，不慌不忙地 吧？但是今天讀到尼克松‘The Interest of the Nation Must Always Come Before Any Personal Considerations’這篇演講的時候里面有一句：As long as there was such a base,I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion,that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future.這里面的“that deliberately difficult process”應該怎么講？好象跟deliberately具有的兩個意思都對不上號啊？后來我又查到一本書里把這里翻譯為“（對）這個艱難過程本質（的不忠實）”，“本質”從哪里來的？這里這種用法什么意思，請各位大師指點！

我想這里deliberately還是取其本意“故意地”，在上下文中可理解為“對該進程人為地制造困難”，翻譯時為順利傳達原意，延伸意譯為“本質上的不忠實”。所謂“本質上的”可理解為是人為造成事實的結果。不知道這樣解釋是否牽強，個人理解，僅供參考。在演講中經常會有一些演講者本人即興發揮的用法，有些甚至還無法用普通語法現象解釋，我想這可能算是一例了。
