是動詞加介詞構成的動詞短語。通常如果該短語后面的對象是名詞，則名詞可以放在這個短語的動詞和介詞之間，也可以放在介詞的后面。如：pick up the flower = pick the flower upput the hat on = put on the hat但如果動詞短語的對象是諸如it, him, them等的代詞，則這些代詞就只能放在動詞和介詞之間，而不能放在介詞的后面。如：take off your coat = take your coat off = take it off (不能說take off it).同理，上面的例子只能是hand in in, try them on, take it off，代詞要放在中間。
