I also want to answer A, the general rule is if you cannot tell any specific reason, you should use simple past tense。But here, I could actually tell a specific reason。 I recall when I learned reported speech (you may want to confirm with a grammer book), something present should be changed to past。 Something past should be changed to past perfect。e。g。 He said "I was born in 1925。"He said that he had been born in 1925。Anyway, this is what I learnt many years ago, so I am not very confident on it。 So please check it with a grammer book。 I would also be grateful if someone could correct me or confirm me。BTW, I could not see anything there is to do with continuous tense here。 。
