從根目錄下看有（即點開C盤就看到的）： windows（2000下是winnt）：windows的主要系統文件都在其中。program files：一般安裝軟件（如office）時，默認位置大多在其中。My Documents：我的文檔（XP放在Documents and Settings中）。Recycled：垃圾箱。temp：臨時文件夾。System Volume Information：2000和XP才有，存放一些特殊的系統文件。
